Herren und Herren des Schlafgemachs - Lords and Gentlemen of the Bedchamber
Gentleman of the Bedchamber war ein Titel im königlichen Haushalt des Königreichs England aus dem 11. Jahrhundert, der später auch im Königreich Großbritannien verwendet wurde . Ein Lord des Schlafgemachs war ein Höfling im königlichen Haushalt ; der Begriff wurde erstmals 1718 verwendet. Die Pflichten der Lords und Gentleman of the Bedchamber bestanden ursprünglich darin, dem Monarchen beim Anziehen zu helfen, ihn beim Essen zu bedienen, den Zugang zu seinem Schlafzimmer und seinem Schrank zu bewachen und Gesellschaft zu leisten. Solche Funktionen verloren im Laufe der Zeit an Bedeutung, boten aber die Nähe zum Monarchen und die Inhaber waren somit vertrauenswürdige Vertraute und oft äußerst mächtig. Die Ämter waren ein Geschenk der Krone und wurden ursprünglich vom Royal Warrant an den Lord Chamberlain vereidigt .

Beschreibung und Funktionen
Es gab immer mehrere Inhaber des Amtes, die ausnahmslos Gentlemen und fast ausnahmslos Peers waren , oft wichtige, da der regelmäßige Zugang zum Monarchen, den die Rolle mit sich brachte, das wertvollste Gut des Höflings war . Zu den Aufgaben des Büros gehörte es, auf den König zu warten, wenn er allein aß, ihm beim Anziehen zu helfen, das Schlafzimmer und die Toilette zu bewachen und Gesellschaft zu leisten.
Ab 1660 wurde das Amt des ersten Herren des Schlafgemachs unweigerlich mit dem des Bräutigams des Hockers verbunden . Im Durchschnitt schwankte die Anzahl der Gentlemen um 12, schwankte jedoch von Zeit zu Zeit. Während der Regierungszeit von James II gab es nur acht, und während der Regierungszeit von Königin Anne wurde keiner ernannt.
