Propliopithecus ist ein erloschener genus of primate .
Die 40 cm lange Kreatur ähnelte den heutigen Gibbons . Seine Augen waren nach vorne gerichtet und gaben ihm ein stereoskopisches Sehen. Propliopithecus war höchstwahrscheinlich ein Allesfresser . Es ist möglich, dass Propliopithecus dieselbe Kreatur wie Aegyptopithecus ist . Wenn dies der Fall wäre, würde der Name Propliopithecus nach den ICZN- Regeln Vorrang vor Aegyptopithecus haben , da er früher geprägt wurde.
Menschenähnliche Zahnmerkmale
Propliopithecus hatte kleine Eckzähne, fehlte der Platz für die Eckzähne des anderen Kiefers und hatte Molaren, die denen von Australopithecus sehr ähnlich waren . Diese Merkmale heben Propliopithecus von Aegyptopithecus ab , der große Eckzähne zusammen mit anderen normalen Affenzahnmerkmalen hatte.
