York Herald of Arms in Ordinary ist ein Waffenoffizier am College of Arms . Es wird angenommen, dass der erste York Herald ein Offizier von Edmund von Langley , Herzog von York, um das Jahr 1385 war, aber der erste völlig verlässliche Hinweis auf einen solchen Herold ist im Februar 1484, als John Water alias Yorke, Herald , bestimmte Gebühren gewährt wurden von Richard III . Diese Gebühren umfassten das Manor of Bayhall in Pembury, Kent , und 8 Pfund, 6 Schilling und 8 Pence pro Jahr von der Lordschaft Huntingfield in Kent.
