Category clean-up[edit]

Entries to this category are currently inconsistent.

  • Should all French authors be double listed both in the "French writers" category and by their "genre(s)" in the subcategories?

or

  • Should all authors only be listed by genre(s) (meaning that there will eventually be no authors visible on the French writers cat page)?

Suggestions? -- NYArtsnWords 18:04, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My suggestion is double-listing. Currently it appears authors are listed only in their genre, and this can make authors difficult to find. For example, I was just searching for Baudelaire. There is no category French Poets. I found him finally under Non-Fiction, French Translators. Sure, he translated Edgar Poe into French, but that is not his primary claim to fame! Creating a genre French Poetry would solve this instance, perhaps, but this is just one example I am sure.Gavroche42 22:12, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I found the 2nd page of subcategories. It's strange that the subcategories get split into two pages in addtion to the full list. I still think the more categories someone is placed under, the easier they are to find. Gavroche42 22:16, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

there seem to be many interwiki links false... Some of them refer to French Literature, others to French Writers--Macronyx 21:22, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

starting cleanup[edit]

I've begun a slow recategorization of the articles so that the article is kept to a reasonnable size. This is only partly solving the problem since Category:French novelists will now become huge but I guess it's still progress to at least split fiction and non-fiction writers for easier browsing.
